"Both back springs?!" It was taking a while to absorb what David, the Service Manager at M-B Bishop's Stortford, Herts. was telling me. "But my W166 is driving normally - surely I would have felt something?" I asked. "Not at all" David responded. So sure enough the dreaded UK pot-holes had struck again. "I am replacing steel springs all the time now on all M-B models" he said. I suppose I should be thankful that I have the full M-B Warranty still running (yes- after eight years!) and that Service Manager David was prepared to attempt a claim for me with 52K miles showing. Fingers crossed then! I should introduce myself. I am Colin Skyrme and entered pensionable age ten years ago. Married to Pat for fifty two years who has always ably assisted me with Pub Meets and much else. We are privileged to split our time between both East Herts and the North foreland in Kent. I have been Regional Officer for both Anglia South and Herts Beds & Bucks, and was formerly MRC for the W220 S Class, when I initiated the S Class Fest at Gaydon. I was also a Concourse Judge (moderns only) at several Milton Keynes National Concourse events - however Malcolm Franks may wish to deny that..... Our 2014 reg., but 2015 model year, W166 ML250 4MATIC Bluetec AMG Sport (phew!) has so far proved trouble free since purchase immediately pre-Pandemic. As has our pristine 2001 C208 CLK 320 Coupe Elegance - well almost, but that's another story! I helped Red Mackinnon start the CLK Forum way back and am privileged to be CLK VIP No.5. (of 6). The M-Class 'morphed' into the GLE a year or so after our car was built when it received only minor cosmetic changes. Thus creating a link that runs from 2012 until pretty much current production, although the much changed EV versions are appearing in the showrooms now. I look forward to raising the profile of this very popular W166 SUV with feature articles and as much technical assistance as I can muster. My first task in our newly refreshed Club, with renowned IB Director Steve Howie as Model Register Co-ordinator, will be to contact the many post-2012 ML/GLE owners in the Club.
